Dakhla, Western Sahara

Finally – we have a few days to catch-up with ourselves after the long dash through Western Sahara.  We wanted to be close-ish to the border (a mere 300km away) for Christmas, so that we can cross into Mauritania shortly afterwards.  We have met some friendly people and are just loving all the sunshine!

A few days of rest is always welcome.  Moreso at this time of year, as we Humans take time to reflect on the year gone past and make resolutions for the coming year.  ‘Twas only a year ago – almost to the day – that we made the decision that we would turn our dream into reality.  Viking Explorer’s employer was due to be taken over, and we were pretty sure that his department was one that wouldn’t survive the merger.  Rather than moping about the fantastic Christmas present we’d been dealt – we decided to turn it into an opportunity: 2012 would be the year that dreams became reality.

It hasn’t been an easy ride this last year.  We have wrenched ourselves from the routine of our corporate jobs and thrown ourselves headlong into our dream – for all it holds.  We have sold most of our earthly possessions.  We have bid a temporary farewell to our friends in the UK.  We have built our new ‘home’ on wheels and kitted it out.  And in October, we handed over the keys to our house and started our adventure.

It’s been scary.

It’s been exhilarating.

So, it’s over to you.  What is your dream for 2013?  We would love you to share it with us – here in the comments – and also how you’ll start it rolling.  Now, I really don’t expect you all to follow our big adventure.  I know it isn’t for everyone, and some days it is even too much for me!

Maybe you want to learn a new language?  Maybe you want to give yoga or meditation a try this coming year?  Perhaps you want to learn a new sport or join a new club?  Maybe take up a new hobby?

And – importantly – what are you going to do about reaching your dream?  Pick up the phone and call?  Book a class?  Find a course?  Really, it is the first little step that gets the ball rolling.

Please do take a moment to share your dreams.  It can be as big or small as you like.  If nothing else, you’ll have the comfort of knowing that Viking Explorer and I support you in your endeavour

Here’s wishing you all a very merry Christmas, happy Holidays and a peacefull New Year.
