Riding through Latin America we met thousands of stray dogs. As written before there’s children and dogs everywhere. The dogs hang out on every street corner, every petrol station, every plaza and they don’t really belong to anyone, they simply hang out in places where it is most likely that someone will throw some scraps ……

The End of the World

We were about to enter Argentina, the final country out of 15 on our journey from the top of Alaska to the tip of Argentina. We would still have to cross back into Chile in order to get to Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia, but it felt like a very big thing to cross this border ……

We had made it through the heat and commotion in Central America, managed to ship our bikes from Panama to Colombia, endured the elevation and rain in Peru, ridden through Bolivia, the poorest country in Latin America, struggled in the mud and frozen our butts off in the Andean Altiplano, and finally we had made it to the DAKAR rally…

Real-life Forrest Gump

Riding from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego you are bound to bump into some pretty crazy people. Some people have given up their normal life, sold everything and travel for years with no income other than what they can earn on the way. Others ride a push-bike all the way through the 2 continents. One guy was literally living on…

One important deadline had been hanging over our heads throughout the journey: The Dakar rally rest-day in Copiapo in Chile on Jan 8th. A Danish participant Jes Munk, #86 was in the rally for the second year in a row. We really wanted to meet Jes and support him the best we could. Lars had ……

Before entering Bolivia we knew that this was probably going to be the toughest part of our Pan-American journey. Bolivia is very poor and underdeveloped and the part we would go through, the Altiplano, has limited infrastructure. The Altiplano is a large area where the Andes are widest. It stretches from southeast Peru to northwest Argentina and ……

We crossed the border from Ecuador to Peru at Macara, a small border crossing in the mountains. It was funny how the scenery was repeating as we moved through the continent. The scenery around this border was very similar to the Sonoran desert in Arizona and northern Mexico, very dry with little vegetation. There was ……

Ecuador offered the most amazing perfect 4 – or even 6 lane highways. We had an important deadline in Copiapo, Chile for the Dakar race rest day on January 8th and finally we could make some decent mileage. We still had to go through Peru and Bolivia though and needed to keep the pace up ……

In Colombia with a new travel partner

On December 6th we headed for the Tocumen Airport in Panama City to fly to Bogota in Colombia. This was a new chapter in our journey from Alaska to Argentina. Hard to believe that we had already done the entire North and Central America. Before we started the journey I had so many fears about ……

We spend the last day in Costa Rica in a nice hotel in Ciudad Neily trying to dry our stuff since pretty much everything was soaked after riding in heavy rain. We needed to be on top of things for the border crossing to Panama. If anything would go wrong here it could screw things up ……

Pura Vida – Costa Rica

We arrived in Costa Rica on November 23rd late in the afternoon and headed directly for the bay west of La Cruz. We were looking for a hotel, but when we found this sweet beach we decided to camp. We missed camping a lot and enjoyed the peaceful beach, the stars and the campfire. We ……

Central America Border Hopping

In the morning November 18th before we could leave for the our next border crossing from El Salvador to Honduras at El Amatillo, Lars needed to fix his clutch cable. We had breakfast and realized that the Austrian couple Elisabeth & Walther we met two nights before was also at the same hotel, staying in the parking lot ……

Guatemala

We spent our last night in Mexico in Comitán de Domínguez before we crossed the border to Guatemala. On our way to Comitan we passed beautiful countryside with small fields and livestock and people everywhere. Stopped at a delicious fruit stall with pretty indigenous girls. Found a nice little hotel in Comitan with space for the bikes. ……

Pueblos Mágicos

We left Guadalajara on Oct 30th and headed for our second Pueblo Magico; Patzcuaro. An old town by Patzcuaro lake dating back to 1320. We rode into the mountains through beautiful pine forests and through small villages. Everywhere people are preparing for Dia De Muertos (Day of the Dead on Nov. 2nd) and it intensifies ……
