We were blessed with perfect weather of 28*C throughout our all too brief sojourne through Lithuania- but we have to keep moving unfortunately.
Lithuania strikes as somewhat wealthier and more advanced than its neighbour Latvia (more like Estonia) – and the lake area near Aukstaitija National Park was exceptionally beautiful.
What can we say- it is very similar to Estonia and Latvia but different in its own way? Very Catholic rather than Russian Orthodox and plenty of shrines and huge churches. The cemetaries are kept as only the Catholics seem to do – and are exceptional.
The villages and wooden houses are as picturesque as ever (and much fewer of the Socialist apartment blocks we have seen elsewhere. Lithuania is nice…
