RE: The BFG MT’s report:
So Shorty, the Toyota short wheel base has just arrived back in Johannesburg from London after leaving on the 19th January 2013. The interesting thing is that we drove the same roads so our tyre comparison is accurate and you will all benefit from the simple data recordings and can choose which direction you want to go.
I’ll sum up the findings on the next post, but here are the BFG’s recordings from our epic East Africa trip.
From x5 new tyres; on average they stand at 10mm’s of tread all around, so there’s loads of tread left to drive back to Europe and Back! The “tread blocks” have remained in tact throughout all 5 and have proved incredibly resilient having looked at the terrain that we have travelled.
We have travelled on ALL TERRAINS; on hard rock surfaces (east side lake Turkana), deep sand (Nubian and Chalbi deserts), snow (Belgium, Austria, Montenegro), deep corrugations (Ilaut – Laisamis [Kenya]), pot holes and long irregular asphalt roads with all sorts of rough/smooth surfaces on route.
For a MT tyres they have proven to be a great ALL terrain tyre, though the economical aspect may be less favourable on asphalt, but saying that, when driving on more “off road surfaces” the benefits of these tyres out way the AT’s. I’m convinced that we would have become stuck on many more occasions with out these MT’s and looking at the performance over all the off road terrains have performed spectacularly!
So, the BFG’s though more expensive have proven to be an immaculate choice!
