Overview
An expedition-ready Toyota Land Cruiser Colorado (Prado) that was used on a 12-month, 25,000 mile trip around Africa in 2017/18.
This Land Cruiser has been equipped specifically for touring both developed and developing countries where security, off-road capability and comfort during long drives are important.
It is very competent off-road and ready to transport you and up to 4 passengers across deserts, through mud and over rocky terrain. It is ready to go on a trip having just been serviced and provided with an array of practical modifications and equipment.

Features
The key features of this vehicle include:
  • Permanent 4WD with low ratio gearbox and differential lock so you really can go anywhere
  • Air conditioning – this works well even when it’s over 35 degrees outside
  • Old Man Emu suspension
  • BF Goodridge K02 A/T tyres
  • Safe box (made out of 3mm steel) to keep your belongings secure in the boot – it is 90 cm long x 95 cm wide x 45 cm high, has 3 storage drawers and houses the removable winch. On the top is a sliding platform which houses the fridge and 150 litre storage box
  • Winch (unused) that quickly mounts both at the front and rear with wired & wireless remote control. The make/model of the winch is a Warrior Samurai S95000 with Armortek synthetic rope
  • Fridge (47 litre ARB) & 20 litre water container accessed by sliding out platform in boot
  • Roof tent – 2 person with mattress, aluminium ladder and cover
  • Roof rack with 2nd spare wheel, 2x jerry cans and 2x sand mats
  • Two batteries with split-charge relay, battery monitor, ability to link both batteries (useful for starting car if main battery is drained), solar cell input socket & regulator and rear 12v sockets (2 x USB, cigarette lighter, fridge) & fuses
  • Snorkel
  • Underbody aluminium plate to protect gearbox & transfer box
  • Winch electric sockets front and rear with waterproof covers
  • Jacking points for use with high-lift jack – 2 front and 2 rear
  • Tinted rear windows
  • Security measures – alarm & immobiliser, ignition kill switch and steering lock to prevent theft
  • Cruise control, electrically adjusted & heated seats, sunroof, reversing sensors, headlight washers, headlight adjusters, heated mirrors
  • Compass, inclination meter, barometer and ambient temperature gauge
  • 4 sets of keys & alarm/immobiliser fobs

Additional equipment included:
  • High-lift jack with wheel adaptor, nose adaptor and base
  • Heavy duty tow rope
  • Shovel
  • Steering wheel lock
  • Spare timing belt, wiper blades, thermostat, starter motor kit, Toyota fuses, headlight bulbs
  • Wheel locks and tyre repair kit
  • Haynes manual

Vehicle preparation and servicing
In April 2017 the vehicle was prepared for its expedition including the replacement of several major parts (see below), a full service including the changing of all fluids and the fitting of a second battery along with electrics to the rear. The oil and filters (oil, diesel, air) were regularly changed during its trip around Africa which was undertaken July 2017 to July 2018. The vehicle was last serviced in December 2018 when an oil change and new oil, diesel & air filters were fitted and the main starter battery replaced.

The following new parts have been fitted:
  • Front and rear suspension (April ‘17)
  • Alarm & immobiliser (April ’17)
  • Leisure 100 Ah battery & rear electrics (April ‘17)
  • Underbody plate (April ‘17)
  • Radiator (April ‘17)
  • Water pump (April ‘17)
  • Exhaust (April ‘17)
  • Rear differential lock (April ‘17)
  • Radio / CD player (December ’17)
  • Transfer box front oil seal (April ’18)
  • Front disc brakes & pads (May ‘18)
  • Rear disc brakes & pads (May ‘18)
  • Handbrake shoes (May ‘18)
  • Starter 95 Ah battery (December ‘18)

Condition
The vehicle is generally in good condition albeit with some scratches to the paintwork. All equipment works. The underbody has some surface corrosion and this has recently been treated. There is some damage to the front passenger window surround but this does not impact the operation of the door or window.
The brake disks, pads and handbrake shoes are virtually new.
The tyres have 10mm tread on the front and 5mm tread on the rear. The spares both have 4mm tread.
