This advice contains new information on visa waivers and protests. For the period 1 June to 18 September 2016 (the Olympic Period), a visa waiver for tourists has been put in place by the Brazilian Government (see Entry and exit) and Australians can visit without a visa. The current political situation in Brazil means that from time to time there will be anti-government protests across Brazil. Travellers should be aware of this and avoid such demonstrations (see Safety and security). The level of this advice has not changed. We continue to advise Australians to exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil.
