Since March 2016, there have been a number of shooting incidents directed at tourist buses travelling on routes 13 and 4 between Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang. These incidents have resulted in a number of deaths and injuries. We now advise you to reconsider your need to travel by road on these routes. There have also been a number of shootings and the detonation of improvised explosive devices in Xaisomboun Province resulting in a number of deaths and injuries (see Safety and security). We advise you to reconsider your need to travel to Xaisomboun Province and be aware of the potential for attacks. We continue to advise Australians to exercise normal safety precautions in Laos overall.
